Eyeglass lenses adapt to each person’s lifestyle. Choosing the right type makes a big difference in your daily visual comfort. Below we explain the differences between monofocal, bifocal and progressive lenses.

Monofocal lenses

Monofocal lenses have the same prescription across their entire surface. They can correct any refractive error or ametropia, such as myopia, hyperopia, astigmatism or presbyopia, providing greater visual relaxation.

Bifocal lenses

Bifocal lenses have correction for both distance and near vision, but not for intermediate vision. In other words, they switch from one field of vision to another abruptly, with a “cut” or “jump.” As a result, they offer a less natural vision. Bifocal lenses were a good solution for people with tired eyes until progressive lenses appeared.

Progressive lenses

Progressive lenses give you natural vision at distance, intermediate and near ranges, with no abrupt jumps between distances. They are especially useful if you have presbyopia and spend a lot of time in front of the computer.

Treatments and care for your lenses

An anti-reflective treatment keeps your eyes relaxed and prevents annoying glare. It also improves the optical quality of the lenses and increases their strength and durability.

Remember to clean your lenses every day with a little water and liquid soap to protect them from fingerprints, scratches, dust and salt.

If you prefer a lens-free option, you can also explore contact lenses. At our clinic in Roatán we help you choose the ideal lens based on your prescription, lifestyle and budget. Visit Dr. Reichmann’s clinic and schedule a complete eye exam as part of our eye care services.
